About Lori Rask

Then the time came when the risk it took to remain tight in a bud was more painful than the risk it took to blossom.

The ArtistI once read that beauty is our earthly experience of the eternal. This explains the sensation that overcomes me when I’m in the presence of true beauty. It captivates my senses and penetrates into my very soul. How a piece of music with notes intricately woven together can carry me to a place not of this earth. Or the soothing sound of waves rolling on shore and sparkling relfections from the sun gleaming off the water quiets me… nourishes me. I sense the powerfulness and goodness of God. This is where the finite meets the infinite.

Beauty awakens my heart and allows it to breathe again, to expand… to rest. Beauty inspires me, invites me, speaks to me – it tells me everything is going to be well. It’s food for my soul. It heals.

In this leg of my journey I am purposely seeking out the beauty in my life, letting my heart bathe in the romance. As the poet Gerard Manley Hopkins aptly expressed: “Self flashes off frame and face.”. In this search for beauty, my endeavor is to create images that reveal a person’s inner voice, the essence that makes them truly beautiful.

Show me your face, let me hear your voice. For your voice is sweet and your face lovely.”

- Song of Songs 2:14

I’m thankful for the major life changes I’ve had to navigate recently. They have given me the opportunity to express my fascination with beauty through my photography. I’m on a new path. It’s not without its fears and challanges, but the time has come for me to take the risk to bloom.
